AHRA and KHANA launch Cambodia’s first peer-led Drug Early Warning System (DEWS)
We are pleased to share the baseline report from the first round of AHRA’s peer-led Drug Early Warning System, implemented together with KHANA across eight provinces in November 2025. This initiative is made possible with support from the Open Society Foundation.
This initiative strengthens rapid, community-based monitoring of emerging drug trends, providing early signals on market changes, perceived potency, unexpected reactions, and reports of recent overdoses. The approach is simple, low-threshold, and integrated directly into routine outreach with people who use drugs.
The findings from this baseline round will guide improvements to the tool, support local harm-reduction programming, and help build a responsive system that places community experience at the center.
A huge thank-you to the outreach teams, respondents, and partners who made this possible. The next DEWS cycle will incorporate expanded questions and strengthened methods based on community and expert feedback.
Toward a region where evidence and lived experience drive health and rights-based responses.
