New Project Launch: Harm Reduction for Border Communities
Communities along the Myanmar–Thailand–Cambodia borders are facing intensified crackdowns against people who use drugs, sex workers, LGBTQI+ individuals, and undocumented migrants pushing them further away from essential HIV, TB, and harm reduction services.
People don’t stop using drugs because services disappear.
They just lose access to:
- HIV testing
- Safe harm reduction support
- Life-saving information
With support from AHRA through Open Society Foundations (OSF), we are launching a community-driven operational harm reduction initiative.
KHANA is integrating harm reduction into HIV testing and counseling services among newly recruited outreach workers, PrEP teams, and field staff.
Training Goals
- Equip outreach workers with knowledge on HIV/AIDS prevention, harm reduction, and mental health support.
- Strengthen practical skills in HIV testing and harm reduction counseling so they can respond safely and confidently in the field.
Project Impact (June – December 2025)
- Peer-led referral pathways for displaced migrants and undocumented communities
- Community-based Drug Early Warning System (DEWS) to detect emerging drug trends
- Monitoring overdose risk and unsafe drug supply
- Cross-border referrals to HIV, STI, and harm reduction services
We believe:
- People deserve health, not punishment
- Community knowledge saves lives
- Access to care is a human right
This is community leadership in action, grounded in dignity, safety, and the right to health.
